About CHARTS
CHARTS (Connecting Health and Records Technology Systems) is a pilot project developed by the Central Florida Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO). CHARTS gathers critical patient information – lab and other test results, doctors’ notes and related details – in a single, electronic data network for secure and easy access by medical staff in hospital emergency departments.
Thanks to the commitment and close cooperation between Florida Hospital and Orlando Health, patient medical records are secure and accessible from any of the two organizations’ 11 hospitals in Central Florida. Plans are that other community health centers, private physician practices and hospitals will join CHARTS after the initial pilot program.

Thanks to the commitment and close cooperation between Florida Hospital and Orlando Health, patient medical records are secure and accessible from any of the two organizations’ 11 hospitals in Central Florida. What this means for patients:
- Convenience. CHARTS can reduce the need to carry your medical records, test results and other information from hospital to hospital.
- Efficiency. Unnecessary test duplications can be eliminated because physicians can identify what tests already have been conducted – and the results – even if the test is done at another hospital.
- Drug safety. Provides a common database of medication information to possibly avoid dangerous drug interactions or drug allergies as noted from previous hospital visits.
- Patient protection. All records are stored on a secure, password-protected network and fall under HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations, just like traditional paper medical charts.
- Confidence. Know you are getting the best possible medical care because doctors can see previous treatments.
- Time savings. Reduces redundant testing and provides optimum physician access to tests and lab results conducted at other participating hospitals.
